Two-position magnetically held solenoid toggle switch with a locking lever — in the style of the APU control found in F/A-18 Hornet cockpits.
A two-position toggle switch with SPDT contacts and a locking lever, function ON-(ON). One is a momentary, spring-loaded position on the keyway side, held in place by a small holding solenoid. The locking lever has to be pulled out of the maintained position by approximately 2mm before the lever can be moved, so the switch cannot be actuated by accident.
The combination of a lock-out lever and a solenoid-held momentary position makes this switch well suited to APU-style controls in F/A-18 style cockpits, and to any panel where a control must be deliberately selected and then held until the simulator releases it.
The solenoid is driven by a low-dropout regulator with an enable/shutdown input, and a flyback diode is built in to protect the circuit. The solenoid is armed by a single logic-level input, so the switch holds for exactly as long as your interface board asks it to, and a limit switch prevents the solenoid from energising unless the lever is physically in the held position. Supplied with a stainless steel M12x0.75mm panel bushing, hex nut, washer, tooth-style lock washer and a wire-to-board connector lead. Currently available as a 12V unit.
Note: may not be compatible with Opencockpits IOCards, as the solenoid and switch circuits share the same ground.
